Dr Lindsay Brown graduated from Otago University with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1965. He has had extensive business and accounting experience as a former partner of Deloitte, Director of Reid Farmers, and Crown appointed Director of Dunedin Airport.
Dr Brown was the Pro Chancellor for the University of Otago from 1999 to 2003, and Chancellor for the period 2004 to 2008. In 2008, he received an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Otago.
His current positions, to name only a few, include Chairman of Otago Innovation Ltd, Director of Mercy Hospital Dunedin Ltd, and Trustee of Ashburn Hall Charitable Trust.
Dr Brown lives in Dunedin with his wife Eleanor, and has three adult children and 3 grandchildren.
The Honourable Sir Edward (Taihakurei) Durie KNZM is of Ngati Kauwhata, Ngati Raukawa and Rangitane of Manawatu. A lawyer, who, in 1974, at age 34, was the first Maori appointed as a judge of the Maori Land Court.
From 1980 he was chief judge of that Court and chairman of the Waitangi Tribunal which he substantially established. In 1998 he was appointed as a judge of the High Court and in 2004 he served as well as a commissioner of the New Zealand Law Commission. When he retired in 2006 he was the longest serving judicial officer.
He has honorary doctorates from Victoria University of Wellington, Massey University and University of Waikato.
Joan Metge is a social anthropologist who has specialized in research in contemporary Maori society and culture and cross cultural communication.
A graduate of the University of Auckland (MA 1952) and the London School of Economics (PhD 1958), she combined fieldwork with teaching at the University of Auckland (University Extension 1961-64) and Victoria University of Wellington (Anthropology 1965-88), taking early retirement to concentrate on research and writing.

The Hon Sir Anand Satyanand was sworn in for a five-year term as New Zealand’s Governor General in 2006.
Born and raised in Auckland, he received a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Auckland in 1970. Following admission to the Bar later that year, he worked at the Crown Solicitor's Office in Auckland (Meredith Connell). He then spent six years as a partner in the Auckland law firm, Shieff Angland, principally practising in criminal law, revenue law and judicial review cases. He also served on the National Parole Board and in 1995 was appointed a Parliamentary Ombudsman, serving two five-year terms.
Sir Anand was awarded the New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal and made a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for public services in 2005. On being appointed as Governor-General he was made a Principal Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2006 and a Companion of the Queen's Service Order in 2007. With the changes to the New Zealand Royal Honours system in 2009, he was redesignated as a Knight Grand Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit. In 2006 Sir Anand received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Auckland.

John Scott is a graduate in medicine and medical science from the University of Otago. He has a doctorate in medicine from the University of Birmingham, UK. His professional career was in academic medicine and his research involved cardiovascular-pathophysiology, epidemiology and therapy. He held a Personal Chair at the University of Auckland and is a former President of the Royal Society of New Zealand.
He is, a longstanding member of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War and was involved in the reconstruction of the Code of Ethics of the New Zealand Medical Association.
