ProfilesDr Lindsay John Brown
Dr Brown was the Pro Chancellor for the University of Otago from 1999 to 2003, and Chancellor for the period 2004 to 2008. In 2008, he received an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Otago. His current positions, to name only a few, include Chairman of Otago Innovation Ltd, Director of Mercy Hospital Dunedin Ltd, and Trustee of Ashburn Hall Charitable Trust. From 1980 he was chief judge of that Court and chairman of the Waitangi Tribunal which he substantially established. In 1998 he was appointed as a judge of the High Court and in 2004 he served as well as a commissioner of the New Zealand Law Commission. When he retired in 2006 he was the longest serving judicial officer. He has honorary doctorates from Victoria University of Wellington, Massey University and University of Waikato. Dame Joan Metge
A graduate of the University of Auckland (MA 1952) and the London School of Economics (PhD 1958), she combined fieldwork with teaching at the University of Auckland (University Extension 1961-64) and Victoria University of Wellington (Anthropology 1965-88), taking early retirement to concentrate on research and writing. She has shared the fruit of her research in books and articles including:

Sir Paul has an MA from Victoria University of Wellington, a L.Th. from St Johns Theological College, and a MA, Hon.Fellow from St Peters College, Oxford. Sir Paul has had a number of roles within the Anglican Church, and after his term as Governor General, took up the position of Anglican Observer at the United Nations in New York. Other positions held by Sir Paul include Chair of the Bio-ethics Council, and Chairperson of the Fiji Constitution Review. He is currently the Chancellor of AUT University. Sir Paul is married to Beverly Gwendolen Watkins and the couple have three daughters. Sir Anand Satyanand
Born and raised in Auckland, he received a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Auckland in 1970. Following admission to the Bar later that year, he worked at the Crown Solicitor's Office in Auckland (Meredith Connell). He then spent six years as a partner in the Auckland law firm, Shieff Angland, principally practising in criminal law, revenue law and judicial review cases. He also served on the National Parole Board and in 1995 was appointed a Parliamentary Ombudsman, serving two five-year terms. Sir Anand was awarded the New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal and made a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for public services in 2005. On being appointed as Governor-General he was made a Principal Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2006 and a Companion of the Queen's Service Order in 2007. With the changes to the New Zealand Royal Honours system in 2009, he was redesignated as a Knight Grand Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit. Sir John Scott
He is, a longstanding member of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War and was involved in the reconstruction of the Code of Ethics of the New Zealand Medical Association. |
