CENTRE FOR PEACE AND CONFLICT STUDIES
In order to enhance Aotearoa New Zealand’s active role in building and sustaining peace, both in the Pacific region and throughout the world, there needs to be a deepening and developing of knowledge, skills and understanding of conflict prevention, management and resolution.
To ensure that there is a constant focus in Aotearoa New Zealand on engendering peace a dedicated and well-funded ‘Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies’ is needed where research, teaching and training will have international integrity.
The Centre will be based at Otago University but have a significant presence in Auckland. Co-operation and collaboration will be developed with other universities and tertiary education institutions in New Zealand as well as emphasis given to developing strong partnerships with tangata whenua peace centres and with indigenous and other peace education initiatives here and overseas.
